Dear Scouters,
Welcome to Camp Avondale and the Avondale Scout Reservation. Avondale has been a camping home for all Scouters since June 14, 1957. The Istrouma Area Council purchased the original 1200 acres from the Pipes family and has expanded the camp by an additional 400 acres since that time. Acres of beautiful lakes, fields, trails, woodlands, and 5 camping areas with more than 100 campsites and structures will be utilized to host our 2012 Summer Resident Camp program for Boy Scouts and Webelos.
To make this our best year ever, in August of 2011 the Istrouma Area Council formed a special Ad Hoc Summer Camp Committee to identify new ideas and program improvements for Summer Camp. Within this guide you will find information of our newly designed Trail Head 1st Year Camper all day program, two new Older Youth programs, new recognitions, and many additions to the afternoon / evening camp wide activities. This pursuit took many hours of discussion, planning, and hard work by the volunteers. I wish to thank and acknowledge the following committee members for their time and talents:

Now more than ever the best of Scouting in Summer 2012 is at Camp Avondale. New and enhanced programs, a bigger staff, terrific food, new evening activities and recognitions, and our pride and joy, Scouters like you and your boys. In order to provide the best camp experience for Scouts and Leaders we are assembling a terrific staff of new and returning staff members. Our staff is committed to providing a quality resident camp experience including: course instruction, activities, meals, supply needs, and more. Those wishing to join the Avondale Staff may complete a Staff Application located in the Council Office or on the Council website. See page 43 for more information. We hope your Troop will join us at Camp Avondale in 2011 for what is sure to be one of our best years ever.
